Product Description
The enduring appeal of the Windsor chair is certainly something to be admired. At Laurel Crown, we wanted to recreate the classic silhouette of this iconic chair with just a touch of modern elegance so it can seamlessly blend in with any contemporary decorating style. Every Windsor chair with arms that we carefully reproduce features a slightly sunken saddle seat, an arched top rail with bent spindles, and a splayed baluster as well as ring-turned legs that are joined by an H-stretcher for reinforcement and tapered feet.
Although the Windsor carver chair originated in 17th century England, its form was perfected in Colonial America. We carve, sand, and finish every fan-back armchair we build by hand in order to preserve the traditional techniques used by those first craftsmen who reimagined its design. These provincial chairs are solidly constructed using the highest quality Honduran mahogany, which was favored by furniture makers for being less brittle than pine and more flexible to work with than oak. Mahogany boasts a lovely reddish-brown hue and a pleasing straight grain, all of which is heightened to dramatic effect with our signature satin semi-gloss finish.
You can create an unforgettable dining experience with our chairs:
- Add a cherry, oak, pine, rosewood, or walnut finish to match other woods
- Request that we leave it unfinished so you can paint or stain it on your own
- Add an antiqued effect or a white-washed finish to make this chair shabby-chic
This Windsor carver chair is designed for use at the head of a dining table and looks positively magnificent as a set with fan-back side chairs for your guests. If you would like to modify the existing design of our Windsor chair with arms, don't hesitate to contact us for more information. Let us know how we can help you turn your vision of a fan-back armchair into a reality.
