Product Description
The Queen Anne style of decorative arts in furniture and home décor began to evolve during the rule of King William III of England. It reached its peak during the reign of Queen Anne (1702-1714) and persisted well after George I ascended the throne.
One of the most common aspects of Queen Anne's influence was its social influences. The custom of social tea drinking produced a need for small, moveable chairs and tables as well as china cabinets, bookcases, and tables such as this mahogany serving table.
At Laurel Crown, our process begins with choosing the right pieces of wood. Ethically sourced, authentic Honduras mahogany is the wood of choice for this antique serving table. As the master carpenters of centuries past and today can attest to, mahogany is the most prized for furniture. Hardy yet more flexible than unyielding oak, stronger than pine, mahogany resists moisture and atmospheric changes better than any other wood, naturally. Mahogany antique furniture holds its shape and is one of the highest quality woods to create a family's next cherished heirloom.
Inspired by afternoon tea in genteel company, the beloved shell has been painstakingly hand-carved with great respect to the scalloped carved shells and S-scroll features found in treasured Queen Anne and antique Victorian serving tables from that time. Particular attention has been paid to the hand sanding, from each shelf to the slender detailed baluster legs and finally to the choice of perfect stain and satin semi-gloss finish. This combination of stain and gloss highlights the enchanting red and brown glow of mahogany that will only redden and deepen as the piece grows older.
Every single piece of furniture we make, like this mahogany serving table, is created by hand as furniture was made to be. Our professional and master carpenters follow the same joinery as the masters, making our furniture an enduring, eye-catching piece. This antique serving table could be the right place for displaying your collections, family photos and so much more. Slim and elegant, it would fit perfectly into a small space flawlessly.
