Every Empire sofa we reproduce is carved, sanded, and finished by one of our master craftsmen, who treat each antique reproduction as if it were the first we have ever made. Although the original settees from which our antique swan sofa was inspired were painted and gilded in gold, we decided to use Honduran mahogany in favor of a less ostentatious finish. This species of mahogany is less brittle than pine but more flexible than oak. Plus, it has excellent dimensional stability, moderate rot resistance, and workability.
